Turkey: Television Preacher Adnan Oktar Jailed for 1,075 years for Sex Crimes

A Muslim Turkish televangelist is sentenced to over 1,000 years of imprisonment. After, the Turkish court did find him guilty of sex crimes. Adnan Oktar is known for his conservative views. Usually, did refer to women, “Kittens”. Mostly, the women did opt for plastic surgery. Also, on many occasions, they did accompany him for his television duties.

The police did arrest and detain the 64-year-old in June 2018. In fact, the preacher, in a shocking ruling, was sentenced to 1,075 years imprisonments. He was found guilty of crimes that included sexual abuse on minors. Even, fraud, sexual assault, attempted political and military spy.

According to reports, there were a total of 236 suspects in the same case. From the number, 78 of them are under police custody. 

During the hearings, there were also allegations of the shocking details of harrowing sex crimes. During one of the hearing sessions, Oktar shocked the court when he confessed that he got more than 1,000 girlfriends. Also, he is quoted to have told the court in October that the love for women overflows in his heart. To the preacher, love is part of human life. 

Notably, Oktar first hit the headlines in the 1900s when it was discovered that he was the leader of a group that was involved in multiple sex scandals. His television programme, A9, however, started going on air in 2011. It was largely denounced by the other Turkish religious leaders. 

One of the women who appeared in the court during his trial narrated that Oktar repeatedly sexually abused her and other women. She also added that those sexually assaulted were forced to take anti-pregnancy pills.

Over 69,000 contraception pills were found in his home by the police. When asked, he said the pills were used to treat skin disorders and menstrual irregularities.

Oktar is remembered for being a creationist. He rejected the Darwinian theory of evolution. He has since written a 770-page book called, “The Atlas of Creation” using the name, Harun Yahya.
